Picking A Right Website Developing StrategyWritten by Z. Zivanovic, WebsiteDevelopingTricks.com One of the most important things in developing a successful and long lasting website is to choose a right website developing strategy. That’s the important task that’s usually done in the beginning of the site developing process. However, it’s often possible to do it later, after some time, and that generally consider some kind of change in the future developing strategy for that particular website. That’s often a case when big companies hire a new web development company that suggest a significant turn in website marketing and developing from the one that was used since then. Either way, picking the right website developing strategy can mean a difference between a successful and unsuccessful website. That also means it’s very important moment and it require a special attention of a website developer. There are quite a few things to take care about when picking the right strategy. I will try to outline some of the most important below based on my experience with many different types of websites. Keep in mind that the process of building a quality website can be very long lasting and painful these days. There’s unlimited number of sites in each area of interest and your website really needs a lot of ‘something special’ to stick from the competition or from similar sites. I always say that trying to figure out that ‘one special idea’ for your site these days almost have the sense of inventing a fire in the satellite age. Instead of wasting unlimited time and brain waves trying to be unique in today’s world of unlimited variety, my suggestion is to spend a bit of time thinking about the possible developing strategy for your future or existing website. If you have the right strategy and stick to your developing plan it’s a huge chance that you’ll end up having a lot of regular and quality visitors on your site. And that’s the key that we all try to achieve. It’s crucial to pick the right infrastructure at the very beginning. That means that you should spend some time picking the right server (you might want to check my article on dedicated hosting) since it is supposed to give you enough space and reliability for future growth. It is discussed in some other articles related to hosting so you should check them out for more on this matter. Site design is something that will be changed during time and you will definitely end up with something completely different from what you started with. Therefore my suggestion is to not spend hours or even days trying to figure out the color for your title, borders etc. You might want to start with something simple for the start and simply add up during time. What’s important is to try to predict which sections will your site have, how would you manage the interlinking between your and other sites and so on. Again, this is something that almost surely will be changed during time; however the important thing here is to keep in mind that changing page names and locations is something that can greatly influence your site’s ranking in search engines later on. Search engines are crucial to your web site traffic and simple changing the name of the page from index.html to index.php can cause your results to disappear from search engines for few months. Therefore it is very important to set up a firm structure of the site from the very beginning that will only add on pages and new sections as the site grow and not change anything on it significantly. It can be done with just a bit of testing and examining other sites as well as planning. Either way it’s something that needs to be set up as a base for future website developing. One of the most important things related to your website developing strategy is the way that you’ll actually maintain and update your website. My suggestion is that you divide your working hours between managing, maintaining and optimizing your site being the first daily task and the second task being the true development which would consider adding new sections and planning future goals. That way you’ll always keep your site in control while in the same time you would provide new interesting materials and sections to your existing users. Some may say that I completely neglected the website promotion. That’s something that I like to count as a task not directly related to direct website development. Instead it’s a work of its own and that should be discussed in my future articles. I might simplify and said that there is a bunch of greatly developed sites being purely promoted as well as many over promoted websites that are purely developed. Like your car. It can have a perfect engine but look awful, or vice versa, but it can be considered a good car only if both the inside and outside of the car is in the perfect condition. That’s why I like to keep these two things not directly related but only if both of them are well done your site will be in perfect condition and can be considered a good site. Each of website developing tasks that you have read about requires some of your time and involvement. However, if done right, it can mean a lot both to you as a site owner and your visitors. It’s something that will provide a sense of security and stability as well as allow your site’s stable growt and maintenance. That’s why it’s crucial to have a right website developing strategy from the very beginning and with just a bit of effort and involvement, you can save yourself from a lot of worries later, which I think is precious in today’s internet related business. |
